How it works

What online speech therapy involves

The format is simple. The expertise is the same as you would receive in person.

Video call

Sessions run over Zoom or FaceTime. You can use a phone, tablet, or laptop. I send a link before each session, so there is nothing complicated to install.

Same personalised approach

The assessment, the therapy plan, the exercises: everything is the same as an in-person session. I can share materials on screen, and you can show me what you are working on.

Exercises and resources

Practice materials and exercises are shared digitally after each session. Many people find it helpful to have everything in one place, easy to return to between appointments.

Flexible scheduling

Online sessions mean no travel time and no geographical limit. If you are outside East Anglia, or simply find video calls more practical, online is a full-quality option.

What I treat online

Who online speech therapy is for

Online sessions are suitable for the full range of conditions I work with. Whether you are recovering from stroke, managing a progressive neurological condition, working on your stammer, or wanting a clearer voice, online therapy delivers the same standard of care as in-person.

The evidence

Research shows online speech therapy produces comparable outcomes to face-to-face sessions for aphasia, dysarthria, stammering and most other conditions.

Consistency matters more than location. Online makes it easier to keep sessions regular, which is often what makes the difference.

Common questions

Questions about online sessions

Do I need special equipment for online sessions?+

Just a smartphone, tablet, or computer with a camera and microphone. A reasonably quiet room helps. I will guide you through anything you are unsure about before we start.

Is online speech therapy as effective as face-to-face?+

Research consistently shows that online speech therapy produces comparable outcomes to in-person therapy for most conditions, including aphasia, dysarthria, Parkinson's and stammering. The most important factor is consistency, and online makes it easier to keep sessions regular.

What if I am not confident with technology?+

We will sort it together. A short test call before your first session means there are no surprises. Most people find it much simpler than they expected.

Can family members or carers join the session?+

Yes, and sometimes this is very helpful. Communication involves other people, and having a family member involved can make a real difference to progress at home.

Is online speech therapy covered by health insurance?+

Many health insurance policies cover private speech therapy including online sessions. It is worth checking with your provider, quoting HCPC-registered speech and language therapist.
