Speech therapy for MSA and PSP
Multiple System Atrophy and Progressive Supranuclear Palsy are rare conditions. Communication changes as they develop, and the right support makes a real difference to how you and your family stay connected.
How MSA and PSP affect communication
Both conditions affect the brain systems that control speech and swallowing. Each person's presentation is different.
Dysarthria
Weakness and reduced coordination in the muscles used for speech. Speech may become quieter, slower, slurred, or harder to understand. The rate of change varies between individuals.
Voice changes
The voice may become strained, breathy, or monotone. Reduced volume is common. Exercises can help maintain speech clarity and volume for longer.
Communication planning
As the condition progresses, planning ahead becomes important: understanding what communication aids and strategies are available, and working out what will suit you.
What speech therapy can do
Therapy for MSA and PSP is not about cure. It is about maintaining communication as long as possible, planning thoughtfully for what lies ahead, and making sure you and your family have the tools you need.
I work with people across the range of presentations, from early intervention when changes are subtle, through to communication planning when speech is more significantly affected.

Your voice, preserved
Voice banking lets you record your voice while it is still clear, so that recording can be used to create a synthetic version that sounds like you. A voice with your accent, your rhythm, your character.
This is one of the most time-sensitive things to plan for. The earlier you start, the better the result. I guide you through the process using platforms including ElevenLabs and SpeakUnique.
